What is this?

This experiment is a browser-based 3D configurator for window blinds, built as a Proof of Concept by CONCIPTUAL LTD. It demonstrates how a modern e-commerce or manufacturing business could allow customers to visualise, customise, and configure a blind product in real time — directly in the browser, without any plugins or downloads.

The gap this addresses is clear: most blind retailers today rely on static images and dropdown selectors. This PoC replaces that with a live 3D model that reacts instantly to every configuration change the user makes.

What the PoC Demonstrates

3D ModellingA fully rendered 3D blind model displayed in the browser using WebGL.

Scene NavigationThe 3D scene can be rotated and viewed from any angle, giving the customer a full spatial understanding of the product.

Blind TypesSupports two product types: Venetian blinds and Roller blinds — each with their own geometry and behaviour.

Mount TypeThe mounting configuration can be updated (e.g. inside recess vs. face fix), reflected live on the model.

Colour SelectionThe customer can choose from available colours — the 3D model updates in real time to reflect the selection.

Open / Close StateThe blind can be toggled between open (raised) and closed (lowered) states, simulating real-world usage.

Venetian TiltFor Venetian blinds, the slat angle can be adjusted via a tilt control — a smooth animation plays on the 3D model.

Preview on My WindowAn advanced feature: the customer uploads a photo of their own window, and the configured 3D blind is overlaid onto it — giving a realistic preview of how the product would look in their actual space.

Why It Matters

The window covering industry is largely stuck in a static, catalogue-driven sales model. Customers make significant purchasing decisions — often for entire homes — based on small swatches and flat product photography. The result is high return rates, low confidence at point of sale, and missed upsell opportunities.

A 3D configurator changes the dynamic entirely. It reduces purchase anxiety, increases average order value, and gives the retailer a meaningful competitive differentiator. The "Preview on My Window" feature in particular closes the gap between online browsing and in-home confidence.
